Charity Shops

Danaher’s charity shops are full of pre-loved items waiting for new homes. Funds raised from shop sales make a huge contribution to our day-to-day upkeep, generating an amazing 50% of the money we need every year to help keep animals safe and secure while awaiting their forever home.

Our six shops are situated in Braintree, Witham, Chelmsford, Dunmow, Sudbury and Haverhill and sell a wide range of clothing and accessories, household goods and bric-a-brac, electrical items and other goodies, including DVDs, CDs, games and puzzles. At some of our shops we also sell larger items of furniture, please click the more information links below to check with your nearest shop and to see opening times and address details. If you are donating items, please note there are some products we are unable to accept. Our friendly staff will be able to advise you, so please call ahead if in any doubt.

All our shops rely heavily on volunteers to staff them and we are always looking for more help. Typical volunteering tasks include serving customers, sorting donated items, creating eye catching displays for our windows and whatever your skills, we have a role to suit. You do not need any previous retail experience and will gain new skills and friends along the way. Simply fill in an Volunteer Application Form.

Items We Cannot Accept

We appreciate every donation, however there are some items we unfortunately cannot accept:

  • Crash helmets/riding hats
  • Car boot stock
  • Car seats
  • Gas appliances
  • Hunting paraphernalia
  • Hunting scenes
  • Knives
  • Life jackets
  • Lifting aids
  • Microwaves
  • Real fur
  • Safety harness
  • Shells
  • Shell decorated items
  • Soft toys with no CE label
  • Used pillows and duvets

If items need repair or are damaged, they are unlikely to be saleable. We try to recycle as much as can but items that need disposing do incur a cost to the charity.

Gift Aid

If you are in a position to gift aid your items, we will be very happy to assist you in joining our scheme. Regulated by HMRC Gift Aid allows us to claim 25p for £1, at no extra cost to the donor. For example, if you donate a bag of items to us which are sold for £25, these would be worth £31 to us, if you sign up to Gift Aid.

Free Collection!

We offer a free collection for larger items, such as furniture, which can be arranged with the manager at your local shop. Each individual item of upholstered furniture must have a fire label attached and items need to be in a saleable condition, our drivers can advise.

Cheque Donations

Are you looking to make a donation to our charity by cheque? If more convenient, cheques can now be dropped off at your local Danaher charity shop as well as posted to our animal home. Just pop by during opening hours so we can thank you for your kindness in person!
