Meet Sophie — a compact bundle of snorts, wiggles, and unapologetic weirdness wrapped up in one very charming French Bulldog.

Sophie arrived with us after a change in circumstances turned her world upside down. One minute she had her routine, her people, her favourite napping spots… and the next, she was starting fresh. While that might sound like the beginning of a sad story, Sophie has made it very clear she’s not here for tragedy — she’s here for snacks, snuggles, and stealing your seat the second you stand up.

This little lady is exceptionally affectionate. If you have a lap, Sophie will find it. If you don’t have a lap, she will politely (but persistently) encourage you to create one. She greets new humans like long-lost friends, complete with enthusiastic wiggles and her signature “snort of approval.” Honestly, she’s the kind of dog who makes strangers feel like VIPs.

And then there’s her goofy side — which is, frankly, most of the time. Sophie has perfected the art of dramatic flops, questionable zoomies, and facial expressions that range from “tiny philosopher” to “I just licked something I shouldn’t have.” She will make you laugh daily, whether you’re ready or not.

Now, Sophie does come with a small but important footnote: she’s not a fan of other dogs. She’s what we call dog-reactive, which means she prefers to keep her social circle strictly human. No dog park brunches for Sophie — she’s more of a “quiet night in with her people” kind of girl.

Because of this, her future family will need to be mindful and prepared to manage her environment so she feels safe and relaxed. The good news? We’re here to help every step of the way. We’ll happily share everything we know about Sophie — her quirks, her triggers, her routines — and offer guidance so you feel confident giving her the life she deserves.

What Sophie really wants is simple:

A calm, understanding home.

A comfy lap (non-negotiable).

And people who love her exactly as she is — goofy bits, snorts, and all.

Staff are here to ensure the animals find homes which suit their needs. Most animals in our care have not had the best start in life and may require special care or training. We will assess your experience and assist you in finding the right pet for your home. Although we want our animals to start their new life with you as quickly as possible, our re-homing process can take a few weeks from start to finish. The process is as follows:

1. Check out the available animals on our website

Browse our website to find your perfect new furry family member. All animals we have available for rehoming are listed on our website, which is updated daily.

2. Fill in an online Interest Form

Fill in an online Interest Form to tell us you are looking to rehome an animal.

If you are interested in any specific animal(s) we currently have available, be sure to select them on your Interest Form when prompted! If there are no suitable furry candidates at present, we will keep your Interest Form on file and contact you if a match becomes available in future.

If you require assistance with filling in an Interest Form or would like help finding the right pet for you, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 0300 111 4321 or use our Contact Form.

Optional: After filling out an online Interest Form, you can visit our Home to view the animals, allowing you to gather additional information about specific animals and determine which one is the perfect fit for you and your family. We no longer require an appointment be made first. Please see the Contact Us page for viewing hours.

3. Interest Form assessment

If you have registered an interest in any specific animal(s), our animal care team will review your Interest Form as quickly as possible to determine if you and the animal(s) are a good match for each other.

It is not always possible for us to respond to every applicant due to the volume of applications we receive for each animal. If after a week or two you have not heard back from us please assume your application was unsuccessful on this particular occasion.

This does not necessarily mean you were assessed as not being able to offer the animal a suitable home. It is often the case that another applicant may have submitted their interest form before you or may have been better suited for the particular animal, so please do not be put off from applying for another. You are welcome to fill out as many interest forms as animals you are interested in and each application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

4. Receive a Phone call from the animal's carer

If considered a suitable match, one of our animal carers will contact you by phone to discuss your interest further, then an appointment may be made for you to meet your chosen animal.

They will be able to answer any questions you may have about the animal and give you more information about the animal's specific needs.

5. First meet with your chosen animal

A member of the animal care team will take the dog out for a walk with you. You will have the opportunity to spend time with the dog, ask questions and make sure it is a suitable match. If you do not already own a dog and the meet goes well, you can place a temporary reserve on our dog and arrange a second meet. Every person who resides at your home will be required to meet the dog at least twice before a full reserve can be placed.

6. Second meet with your chosen animal

If you own a dog (or dogs) already, they will need to meet your potential new house member at least twice:
1st dog meet: The 1st dog meet is on lead so the dogs can spend time together in a controlled manner.

2nd dog meet: The 2nd dog meet starts on lead, if the dogs are mixing well, we will let them off lead in our secure compound to see how they interact. If all goes well, you can place a full reserve on our dog.

If the meet doesn’t go as planned, we can discuss the options of further meets or of looking at other dogs which may be suitable.

We recommend that after the 2nd dog meet, you come up and visit as much as possible so that the dogs can continue to interact. This makes the transition to the new home easier on both (or all) dogs.

PLEASE NOTE: We advise that you order an ID tag either at the centre when you place your full reserve or as soon as possible from another shop. You will need to bring your dog tag with you when you come to collect your new pet from the centre. If you have pre-ordered the tag and it has not arrived when you come to collect your new pet, we ask that you bring proof of purchase with you.

7. Arrange a home check

Once a full reserve has been placed on the animal, you will be put forward for a home check. Everyone adopting an animal through the centre is subject to a home check under RSPCA Policy to ensure your home is suitable for your prospective new animal. One of our home checkers will be in touch to arrange a time that is convenient to visit you. This can take up to 7-10 days after the Full Reserve has been placed, but we do try to complete them as quickly as possible.

The home checker will contact the centre and advise us of their visit. The home checker will advise if your house is ready, or we may be advised that work is needed to be carried out before your home is ready, or it might be that the home is not suitable for the animal in question. The centre will contact you to discuss any points raised by the home checker if necessary or to arrange collection of your new pet.

8. Arrange to take your new pet home

A time is arranged for you to come and collect your new pet. We require all dogs to be fitted with a collar, lead, and tag before they leave. The outstanding balance of any remaining adoption fees must be paid in full at this time before the adoption paperwork can be completed. You will also need to ensure you are able to transport your new pet home safely.

PLEASE NOTE: Where applicable, you may not be able to collect your new pet until they have been neutered and medically signed off by our vet, if they have been on treatment during their time at the centre. We do allow some animals to be re-homed on treatment, but this is looked at on a case-by-case basis.

All payments are non-refundable, reserves/deposits are deducted from the total fee.

Terms & Conditions of Adoption

Please note the following rehoming policies of the RSPCA Danaher Animal Home. You are required to agree to the Terms & Conditions of Adoption to acknowledge that you understand the terms of adopting an animal through our centre. Thank you for your co-operation.

We are looking for long term, permanent homes for animals in our care and we need to be sure you can provide such a home. This means we have to ask questions about your personal circumstances.
Please note that all payments are non-refundable. Please think carefully before putting a reserve on one of our animals.
If you see an animal that you like, but it is not currently available for re-homing, we can take your details as an ‘Interest’ for that animal. We do not work on a ‘first come, first served’ basis – we try to find a home that is best suited to each individual animal. Due to the high numbers of public we have visiting our centre we only call ‘Interests’ who have been selected to meet the animals. If you do not hear from us, please feel free to call us or come back to the centre and we will be more than happy to help you to find your perfect pet. PLEASE NOTE: We are not obliged to disclose the reasons why people are not successful.
We do not normally re-home to families with children under 3 years old, however families with children under 3 may be considered at our Managers discretion.
All Allergies must be declared on the application form.
If you live in rented accommodation, we will need to see a copy of your lease to confirm that you are allowed to keep a pet. If it is unclear from your lease, we will require a written letter from your landlord.
We do reserve the right to refuse an animal adoption under certain circumstances.
All members of the household must come to the Animal Home before an animal can be reserved for you. This includes any existing dogs coming to meet a proposed new dog. We will normally ‘hold’ (temp. reserve) the animal of your choice for you for up to 1 week (acting manager’s discretion) to allow everyone to come along and agree the new addition. We will also take a deposit of £15.00 (this is non-refundable)
Once everyone has met and the staff are happy, this can then go to a full reserve and we will take a further deposit of £40.00 (this is also non-refundable). We will then put you through for a home check.
A form of identification will be required to be shown before we can put you through for a home check. This can be a driver’s license, utility bill, etc.
A Home Checker will need to visit you at home before you can adopt an animal. They will contact you directly to arrange this. The home checkers are volunteers so this can take up to 10 days but the home checkers do try and complete them as quickly as possible.
All existing dogs or cats in the household should normally be neutered and vaccinated.
Dogs are pack animals which need a lot of company and should not regularly be left alone for long periods at a time. We assess our dogs as best to our ability in which we feel they would cope with being left. Young animals need almost constant company, particularly puppies as they need help with socialisation and house training.
A secure garden or exercise area for dogs is essential.
Adoption will not be considered if you have holiday plans within the next two months.
Veterinary fees can be expensive and adopters need to be able to meet the costs of both routine and emergency care. We strongly advise you arrange appropriative pet insurance cover to help cover emergency costs.
Any veterinary costs incurred once an animal has been adopted are the sole responsibility of the adopter and we can offer no guarantee as to the future health of any animal. However we will make you aware of any conditions we find. Please note that the centre will not carry out any dental work which is deemed to be cosmetic.
Within your adoption folder you will receive a routine medication form to say when your new pet has had routine products and also any vet sheets they may have occurred whilst at the centre.
We will expect you to continue to seek medical advice for any illness and keep up with routine preventative treatments e.g. worming, vaccinations, flea treatment.
All our animals are passed on in good faith and have received a health check on arrival (any concerns are passed onto our consulting vet). They are believed to be in normal health on leaving the centre except where specific conditions have been made known to the adopter. Therefore it is regretted that the Danaher Animal Home is unable to accept liability for any expenses or costs of any kind arising from sickness or injury of any nature developed by the animal (whether or not any known existing conditions or symptoms of the animal are made known to the adopter prior to this agreement) and the responsibility for and cost of future treatment shall be borne to the adopter.
All dogs must leave the centre with a lead and collar with an identity disc. You can order one from the centre which will be delivered to your address within 2-5 days. Collars, leads and walking aids can also be purchased from the centre and the profit made comes back directly to the centre, to benefit the animals here.
