Wilma and Betsy were previously at Danaher Animal home until they found their forever home, and their family have got in touch to let us know how they have been getting on!
"When we first bought the girls home we weren’t able to catch them if they were off the lead, they didn’t know their names and they were timid and anxious about everything and everyone. The first few months were hard work as they couldn’t be left. There was a time I wasn’t sure I could cope with them. But they are so lovely and really really deserve a second chance at life. I’ve had dachshunds for more than 20 years and had a family of four which I bred previously. So I know the breed well. They can be stubborn. The girls weren’t house trained when they arrived, barked at everyone. Now, they are such good girls and have grown in confidence and continue to do so all the time. They absolutely have been worth persevering with. They love ‘their people’ and once they get to know new people they love them too. I can remember the first time they came up on the sofa voluntarily. They now snuggle with me on the sofa in the evenings and can’t get close enough, I have hardly sat down and they are on my lap. They are incredibly affectionate. They love my parents Labrador who lets them snuggle in bed with him. They also love to play chase with him in the garden. I don’t think they got the memo that they are Dachshunds not Whippets. They love spending the day in front of my parents Aga on the odd days when I have to go to the office for work. They love to play and wrestle and chase each other. They love walks in my village and walk well on the lead now and don’t seem to mind any weather as long as they can come home to their nice bed for a warm up and dry off. They are good a being left for short periods as long as they have each other and the radio on and a tasty chew. Wilma LOVES her toys, my neighbour donated them a whole toy box of unwanted toys from their dogs and she loves playing with them and has some particular favourites and seems to be such a baby. We were told they are sisters but I am convinced Wilma is Betsy’s daughter. Betsy appears a bit older and more sensible. Wilma is still a bit of a worrier. And can be a bit reactive at times. I am so pleased you kept them together, they are inseparable. Wilma has grown and they have both filled out and have fabulous shiny coats."
